Perrigo, manufacturers of the emergency contraceptive pill, ellaOne, have revolutionised the way that women can order the ‘morning after pill’. ellaOne is already available through traditional pharmacy retail outlets, but Perrigo were keen to exceed customer expectations for convenience and ease of purchase.

Precision were able to offer a complete distribution management solution for Perrigo, providing full flexibility to the customer through launching a 24-hour, 7 day-a-week, entirely discreet eCommerce fulfilment delivery service.

Precision put together the ultimate end-to-end eCommerce solution, which stands apart from its competitors. With statistics suggesting that 47.14% of consumers are expected to purchase healthcare products online by 2027, implementing an effective eCommerce platform is fundamental. In addition, those consumers who use retailers ‘click and collect’ services were often having their chosen products switched to another product at the point of collection. Precision provided the solution; starting with the eCommerce site design, order processing, pick, pack and dispatch, and delivery to the customer’s destination of choice. In addition to all the necessary sales, stock, and financial reconciliation and reporting, we also provide full customer service management, and have access to our own pharmacist who can offer medical advice if required.

Traditional retail websites can often come with delayed shipping, and with a product of this nature, it was imperative that this was not the case for ellaOne. Perrigo wanted to take control of the purchase options available for customers of ellaOne, and to be able to provide a quick, discreet, and convenient customer journey from start to finish.  In essence, deliveries are made 7 days-a-week, using a next-day delivery service through our trusted courier. The ultimate efficiency test of this system was being able to deliver to fulfil three-hour eCommerce delivery; for Perrigo and Precision, this was a first for the healthcare industry, and one we are together immensely proud of.

To enhance the customer experience, ellaOne is shipped in bespoke, discreet packaging which corresponds to the branding colours of the product. A careline card, alongside some “keep in mind” information regarding the product is also included within the packaging. A flyer which provides information for another Perrigo contraceptive product, and a trackable QR code which leads directly to the site for purchase is also included. Various payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are accepted – giving the customer further flexibility.

The eCommerce website design makes it possible for customers to complete their purchase in as few as 3 clicks, setting it further apart from its competitors. ellaOne customers could now:

  • Complete a short and simple questionnaire to check eligibility for the purchase of ellaOne, which is then approved by a registered Pharmacist. This is a requirement for the purchase of a P (Pharmacy Sale) medicine. If required, the Pharmacist can have a confidential chat with the customer before advising on purchase.
  • Order their emergency hormonal contraceptive (EHC) and have it delivered the very next day, even over the weekend.
  • For Central and Greater London out to the M25, they could also receive their EHC within three hours. At any chosen location and time specified.
  • Be reassured that they can contact a trained member of the Customer Services team 24 hours a day, by email or by telephone.
  • Fully track their order and their delivery window.
  • Receive their product direct to their chosen location in totally discreet packaging.


Safety behind the scenes.

The safety of customers is paramount in the supply of any licensed medicines. In the design and development of the ellaOne Direct eCommerce site, an assessment of potential drug interactions and medical conditions had to be built in, to ensure that ellaOne could not be supplied to an individual for which it is not suitable.

Precision’s highly skilled team of in-house eCommerce site developers devised an algorithm that ensured the Supervising Pharmacist could intervene and contact any customer that was classed as requiring a follow-up consultation. All orders flagged by the site as ‘Needs Approval’ were then contacted by the Pharmacist for a confidential discussion before offering appropriate advice on supply of ellaOne.
