At Precision, sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations. Driven by carbon-saving practices we’ve consistently sought innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint. This year, we are proud to announce that water conservation will become one of our next sustainability focuses.

While our efforts in this area are still in their infancy, some water-saving measures are already in place. In 2025, we are hoping to build on these foundations to tackle water wastage, optimise usage, and contribute to water sustainability goals.

Why Water Conservation is Vital

Water is a precious resource. Although 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, only a small fraction—about 0.5%—is available for human use. With increasing global demand, climate change exacerbating water shortages, and ecosystems dependent on freshwater for survival, conserving water is critical for a sustainable future.

In the UK, businesses consume significant amounts of water daily, with many unaware of the environmental and financial costs associated with inefficient usage. Precision recognises that addressing this challenge is not only good for the planet but also a sound business decision. By focusing on water conservation, we aim to set a precedent for others in our industry to follow.

Our Water Conservation Goals for 2025

This year, Precision’s sustainability team will be developing and implementing a range of initiatives to reduce water usage across our operations. While many of these plans are still in the conceptual phase, here are some key areas we’ll be focusing on:

  1. Building on Existing Measures

We’ve already taken steps to conserve water by installing water-saving mechanisms in our toilets. These systems reduce the amount of water used per flush and minimise waste during everyday activities. In 2025, we’ll look to expand these measures across all facilities, ensuring every part of our operation aligns with our conservation goals.

  1. Auditing Water Usage

We can’t improve what we don’t measure. Our first step will be conducting a company-wide audit to assess how much water we use, where we use it, and where waste occurs. This data will form the foundation of our conservation strategy, helping us identify quick wins and long-term opportunities for savings.

  1. Installing Water-Efficient Technologies

Precision plans to explore technologies that can make our operations more water efficient. Potential upgrades include low-flow fixtures in facilities and water recycling systems that repurpose greywater for non-potable uses.

  1. Employee Engagement and Training

Sustainability is a collective effort, and engaging our team will be crucial to success. This year, we’ll roll out training programmes to raise awareness about water conservation and encourage staff to adopt water-saving habits in their daily routines. Simple actions, such as promptly reporting leaks or using water mindfully, can make a significant difference over time.

  1. Collaborating with Suppliers

Sustainability extends beyond our premises. We’ll work with suppliers to ensure water conservation is a priority throughout our supply chain. This may include encouraging sustainable practices among our partners and choosing vendors who align with our values.

  1. Exploring Rainwater Harvesting

One of the most exciting prospects for this year is investigating the feasibility of rainwater harvesting systems. These systems collect and store rainwater for use in cleaning, landscaping, or other non-potable applications, reducing our reliance on treated water.

The Role of Water Conservation in Sustainability

Conserving water is about more than just reducing waste—it’s about fostering resilience and supporting global sustainability efforts. For Precision, focusing on water conservation will:

  • Support Climate Goals: Reducing water usage lowers energy consumption associated with water treatment, transport, and heating, which contributes to lowering our overall carbon footprint.
  • Enhance Biodiversity: Using water efficiently helps protect aquatic habitats and ecosystems that depend on freshwater resources.
  • Promote Circular Practices: By recycling water or repurposing it for other uses, we’ll create more sustainable and efficient processes.

By prioritising water conservation, Precision is reinforcing its commitment to addressing interconnected environmental challenges holistically.

The Environmental Impact of Reducing Water Usage

The potential benefits of reducing water usage are significant. For example, even modest reductions can lead to:

  • Lower Energy Consumption: Treating and transporting water requires a considerable amount of energy. By conserving water, we’ll indirectly reduce emissions and support our climate goals.
  • Preserved Natural Resources: Sustainable water use ensures that rivers, lakes, and underground aquifers remain viable for future generations.
  • Improved Water Security: With global water demand rising, every drop saved helps alleviate pressure on limited freshwater supplies.

By aligning with these global goals, Precision’s water conservation efforts will contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Conclusion

At Precision, we believe that every action—big or small—counts in the fight for a sustainable future. While our water conservation journey is just beginning, we’re proud to already have water-saving mechanisms in place. In 2025, we’ll build on these successes, explore new technologies, and foster a culture of conservation across our operations.

Water is a shared resource, and its conservation is a shared responsibility. As we embark on this next chapter, we invite you to follow our progress, share your insights, and join us in making a difference—one drop at a time.
