Blue Sky Thinking. Literally!

When Precision proudly announced it was a carbon neutral business at the beginning of 2020. It was the culmination of a lot of hard work by the whole team, however we cannot sit back on our sustainable laurels, there will always be more to do.

So that takes us nicely to our next exciting green project. This time it’s a collaboration! Together with, ‘West Suffolk Solar for Business’ is a ground-breaking green initiative provided by West Suffolk Council. As part of their sustainability commitment to ‘make West Suffolk businesses leaner and greener’ they have supplied, installed and will now manage a full rooftop solar PV system at our Bury St Edmunds head office.

West Suffolk Council met the full cost of the supply and installation of the 99 KWp solar PV system but Precision can use 100% of the energy generated via a discounted renewable energy supply tariff. The sustainable energy this provides will cut our COemissions by 15% per annum significantly reducing our carbon footprint.

This new installation complements our existing rooftop solar PV system effectively doubling our green power generation. For the sake of context a typical home in the UK consumes 3,700 kWh per year. Our sustainable green energy production could conceivable meet the power needs of 21 UK homes per annum!

We have little need for our weekend generated units. Therefore we are exporting this surplus solar energy to fund a UK tree planting carbon offset scheme. An essential part of our carbon neutral business model.

Part of the Council’s role is supporting business growth, helping the environment and creating income to help fund our day to day services for residents and businesses. The brilliance of the Solar for Business scheme is that it does all these things together. It saves businesses money, it cuts carbon emissions helping West Suffolk as a place become cleaner and even more of a great place to live and work, and it supports Council services. So I am delighted that Precision is furthering its green credentials  by working with us, and look forward to more West Suffolk businesses following its lead.
